Winners’ Circle

Northport-based photographer James Twomey III is one of a dozen winning artists whose work will be on display through March 26, 2006, at Gallery North in Setauket.

Twomey, whose photographic output has been seen in fairs and festivals and art shows widely in recent years, joins sculptors, ceramic artists, painters and other visual artists in the winners' circle of this prestigious competition, the 40th annual show of its kind for Gallery North.

James Twomey's subjects are nature, rural scenes and abstract insights into everyday objects. Of special note is his uncanny talent for composition and an understanding of the interplay of light and shadow on his subjects. While others might pass by everyday objects without a second thought, Jim uses the camera lens to capture, his own unique view of the world we may take for granted.

The result is a fresh approach to the unusually bright colors and fascinating textures that surround us.

His portfolio features beautiful landscapes, autumn scenes, and unusual views of the everyday world. Images include scenes from Long Island and upstate New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Maine.

Twomey joins such well known figures in regional art circles as Stephen Fabrico, Flo Kemp, Karen Kemp, Marilyn Murphy, Eugene Quinn, Lisajoy Sachs, Krisztina Skrabonja, Russel Spillman, Jane McGraw Teubner, Mary Jane van Zeijts and Furong Zhang in the elite exhibition.

The gallery, located at 90 North Country Rd. in Setauket, is a not-for-profit gallery celebrating 41 years of promoting the finest contemporary Long Island art and craft. For more information visit www.GalleryNorth.org.
